Roopak's Aloo Jeera Masala Recipe


  • 4 Medium-sized potatoes, peeled and diced into cubes
  • 2 Tablespoons oil (vegetable or mustard oil works well)
  • 1 Teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1 Teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 Teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon red chili powder (adjust according to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Lemon wedges for serving (optional)


  • Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds. Let them splutter for a few seconds.
  • Add the diced potatoes to the pan and toss them well in the oil and cumin seeds.
  • Sprinkle turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt over the potatoes. Mix well until the potatoes are evenly coated with the spices.
  • Cook the potatoes on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they are cooked through and golden brown. This may take about 15-20 minutes.
  • Once the potatoes are cooked, garnish with chopped coriander leaves if desired.
  • Serve hot with chapatis, rice, or as a side dish with your meal. You can also squeeze some lemon juice over the potatoes before serving for added flavor.
