1 tablespoon Garam Masala Recipe:
Garam masala is a blend of ground spices commonly used in Indian cuisine.
Ingredients:
- 2 Tablespoons whole coriander seeds
- 1 Tablespoon whole cumin seeds
- 1 Tablespoon whole black peppercorns
- 1 Tablespoon cardamom pods
- 1 Small cinnamon stick (about 2 inches)
- 1 Teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 Teaspoon ground nutmeg or grated nutmeg
- 1 Teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
Instructions:
- Dry roast the whole spices: In a dry skillet or pan, add the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, and cloves. Toast them over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until they become fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.
- Let the roasted spices cool down completely.
- Once cooled, transfer the roasted spices to a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
- Add the ground nutmeg and ground ginger to the grinder or mortar and pestle.
- Grind all the spices together until you achieve a fine powder. If using a mortar and pestle, you may need to work in batches.
- Once ground, store the garam masala in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It will keep for several months, but for the best flavor, it's recommended to use it within a few weeks.
This homemade garam masala blend will add depth and warmth to your dishes, enhancing their flavor with its aromatic spices. Adjust the proportions or add other spices according to your taste preferences. Enjoy cooking with your homemade garam masala!
